January 4, 2008: Sometimes I just stand amazed...

My dear old long departed friend, the Buc Tode, Grand Exalted Ruler of the Royal Order of Chickahominy Todes, told me more than once his thinking on the subject of accepting help. "Never turn down an offer of help, nor refuse to accept a gift. 'Cause if you ever see a turtle sittin' on a fence post, you know somebody gave him a lift." My dear friend John Hartmann's words have been a constant companion over the decades, "If the center holds, then anything is possible." My good friend Garth from the Positive Vibe said, "The reward is in the giving. It makes people feel better to give, than it does for you to receive." I knew exactly what he was talking about. Only this time, it's me on the receiving end, not the giving. And that's a difficult creek for me to cross. Joanne and Terry Garland and Susan Greenbaum made me promise, when in the hospital for five days and four nights fighting an infected knee, that if I needed a hand to get out of the muck, I would a$k. Well, I bit my lip, and admitted to myself that this might be the proverbial straw. So Jo put together a benefit, scheduled for this Sunday, January 6, at the Canal Club. I am greatly humbled by all the performers who will be there. With so many people in much worse shape than I, it is difficult to justify, in my mind, why I deserve such attention. But it will be a great day of music. And I promise that we WILL keep the Out O' the Blue Radio Revue alive and kicking. Chris Fuller, Billy Lux, Jay Gillespie, Charles Arthur and Jim Skelding and I go on at 3:00pm. 30 minute sets. And it's over by 10:30. 10% of the gross goes to the Positive Vibe Cafe http://www.positivevibecafe.com . For more info, contact Joanne Garland at terrygblues@verizon.net . The schedule of performers follows, in order of appearance. The Canal Club, 1545 East Cary Street, Richmond, Virginia
